Last updated: May 31, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Richard Ling, operating as Matchpoint ("Matchpoint," "we," "our," or "us"), collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about you when you use the Matchpoint mobile application and any related services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy.
If you have questions, contact us at team@matchpoint.place.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: Your name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Profile information: Your profile photo, tennis skill level (self-reported level), and gender.
- Location preferences: On the app, you will indicate the geographical area in which you would like to play tennis via a circular map. You may drag the circular map to be smaller or larger, depending on your playing location preference. We do not collect your personal address at all.
- Availability: The days and times (morning, afternoon, evening) you indicate you are available to play each week.
- Match communication: Messages you send to other users through Matchpoint to coordinate your weekly match.
- Support requests: Information you submit when you contact us for support or account deletion.
Information collected automatically
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and app version.
- Push notification tokens: A device token used to deliver push notifications via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Usage data: General information about how you interact with the app, such as features used and screens viewed.
- IP address: Collected incidentally through server requests — used for security and fraud prevention, not for tracking.
- Crash and error reports: If the app crashes or encounters an error, diagnostic information is automatically collected via Sentry. This may include the error type, stack trace, app version, device model, and operating system version. This data is used solely to identify and fix bugs.
Information we do not collect
- We do not collect precise real-time GPS location.
- We do not collect payment information — Matchpoint is currently free with no in-app purchases.
- We do not collect biometric data.
- We do not sell your personal information.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Match you with compatible local tennis players based on skill level, availability, and location preference.
- Send you push notifications about your weekly match (via Firebase Cloud Messaging).
- Send you transactional emails such as match confirmations and account notifications (via Resend).
- Display relevant map information to help you find courts and coordinate with your match (via Mapbox, Google Maps, and Apple Maps).
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
- Respond to your support requests.
- Diagnose app crashes and errors, and improve app stability (via Sentry).
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Use.
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Your Information
With other Matchpoint users
When you are matched with another player, we share limited profile information with them — specifically your name and profile photo — so you can identify each other and coordinate your match. Your location is never shared with other users. We only ask for your preferred play area (which you draw on a map), and use that radius to match you with players whose preferred areas overlap. Your precise location always remains private.
With service providers
We work with third-party companies that help us operate the Service. These providers have access to your information only as necessary to perform services on our behalf and are obligated not to use it for other purposes.
- Supabase — Database and backend infrastructure. Your account data, profile, and match history are stored in Supabase. Supabase Privacy Policy
- Firebase (Google) — Push notification delivery. Your device token is sent to Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver match notifications. Firebase Privacy Policy
- Render — Server hosting. Our application server runs on Render's infrastructure. Render Privacy Policy
- Expo — Mobile app distribution and over-the-air updates. Expo Privacy Policy
- Mapbox — Map rendering and location search. Mapbox Privacy Policy
- Google Maps — Map and location services on Android. Google Privacy Policy
- Apple Maps — Map and location services on iOS. Apple Privacy Policy
- Resend — Transactional email delivery. Resend Privacy Policy
- Sentry — Crash reporting and error monitoring. If the app encounters an error, diagnostic information (device type, OS version, app version, and error details) is sent to Sentry to help us identify and resolve issues. Sentry Privacy Policy
For legal reasons
We may disclose your information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with applicable law, a court order, or legal process; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Matchpoint, our users, or the public; or to detect, prevent, or address fraud or security issues.
Business transfers
If Matchpoint is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or a notice in the app before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active, or as long as necessary to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete your profile, profile photo, availability data, push notification tokens, and other personal data within 5 business days.
We may retain certain information in anonymized or aggregated form (such as match history records) for safety, fraud prevention, and platform improvement purposes. We may also retain records required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as dispute resolution.

7. Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data storage via Supabase, secure server infrastructure via Render, and token-based authentication. However, no internet transmission or electronic storage method is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Third-Party Links and Services
The Matchpoint app may contain links to or integrate with third-party services such as maps. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third-party services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any information to them.
